  • Fei Loong

The doctors had told me that my kidneys were at a severe stage. The GFR reading he took was at 16mL/min. If it dropped to 15mL/min, I would have to go for dialysis as that’s the point they considered as kidney failure.

For over 20 years, I’ve been living with the ‘three highs’ diseases – high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar.

I used to suffer from poor blood circulation that caused me to have both stiff neck and stiff body problems. This made it difficult for me to sleep at night.

I tried everything from TCM to different beds and mattresses, but none of them solved the problem. So, to help me alleviate the pain, I would pop Panadol pills every other hour. I knew this wasn’t a solution, but nothing else had seemed to work.

I had a serious case of gout which affected my joints, causing myself to have difficulty in walking properly. My medication was the only way I could get on with my day-to-day activities.

Ever since I discovered qigong and tai chi at Nam Wah Pai, the training has made a big difference to my life.

My job as a pilot can be stressful at times. To ensure that we are literally “fit” for the job, we have to maintain a certain level of physical fitness in order to operate the aircraft. As I got older, I found myself getting tired easily and my blood pressure was on the high side at 140/90.

A friend of mine introduced me to Qigong and Tai Chi classes at Nam Wah Pai and after a month of training here, I knew that continuing this practice and lifestyle would help me in sustaining my career as a pilot for as long as I was allowed to.

I no longer worry as much during fitness examinations and my blood pressure is now at a healthy range, and I feel much more energised to complete my task at work and daily activities.

I have been practicing at Nam Wah Pai for more than 10 years and it has helped me improve my physical and spiritual health. This was the best decision I made for myself and I feel the benefits of these trainings every day.

As a diabetic, one significant surprising change was discovering that my blood sugar had gone down from 9.6 to 5.5 during health check-up at the clinic. Now my blood sugar level stays at a healthy range with regular Qigong training at Nam Wah Pai. Thank you Master Sim and everyone at Nam Wah Pai for helping me discover a better life.

Practicing Qigong and Tai Chi regularly with Nam Wah Pai has changed my life for the better. I started practicing when I was looking for ways to improve my health and strengthen my immune system.

I used to fall sick very easily and had to visit the doctor every few months to take medication. I knew this was not good for me in the long term and it was disruptive to my work when I had to frequently be on sick leave.

When I first tried Qigong, I was surprised that a year passed by quickly and I was still practicing regularly! To me, it doesn’t feel as much of a chore as other forms of exercise as it also helps me clear my mind and energizes me mentally.

It has now been more than 10 years since I joined Nam Wah Pai and my immune system and health has definitely improved.

  • Toh Ah Chee

About 6 months ago, I went for a knee operation. Although I followed my doctor’s advice on being patient and going for physical therapy regularly, I still experienced difficulty moving around. As weeks passed, I grew increasingly frustrated that I could not perform daily tasks without feeling pain.

My doctor advised that everyone’s recovery process is different and it could take a longer time for me, as I was overweight. I was conflicted and didn’t know what to do. I needed to improve my health by exercising to lose weight but yet I was feeling pain even while walking!

Surprising as it sounds, I have been on medication for 20 years now. Roughly around my fifties, my health began to decline, leading myself to rely on medication to keep up with my strength. In between those 20 years, I had suffered health issues like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, trouble breathing, and being overweight.

More or less, I started feeling weary and dizzy while my body trembles cold. I even had breathless moments when walking for no more than 3 minutes. These sunken feelings left me frustrated more than ever in my life.
